Dealometry’s Big, Complicated Press Release

Men’s Daily Deal Site Dealometry Launches

Seattle startup leverages technology and service offerings from Deal Co-op and ManPacks, graduates of ‘Startup America’ accelerator programs

Seattle – March 3, 2011 – Dealometry, a Seattle startup founded by veteran Seattle entrepreneur and startup evangelist Bob Crimmins, announced today that it has launched a national daily deal site featuring products and services exclusively for men at http://dealometry.com.

Dealometry was born out of Crimmins’ work as a mentor with TechStars Seattle and serves as an example of the power of mentor-driven accelerator programs. TechStars and other mentor-driven accelerator programs create the environment for new and veteran entrepreneurs to build deep and valuable relationships that are at the heart of the Startup America economy.

“It takes a village to raise a startup and mentor-driven accelerators like TechStars are the ultimate village for a startup to thrive in,” said Bob Crimmins, founder of Dealometry.

Dealometry is built on top of technology developed by Seattle startup Deal Co-op, a graduate of TechStars Seattle. Dealometry’s first deal is provided by startup ManPacks, an online subscription-based retailer of men’s underwear, socks, and tshirts.  ManPacks is a graduate of BetaSpring, a Rhode Island accelerator program. Both Seattle TechStars and BetaSpring are part of the newly formed TechStars Network–a national cooperative organization of accelerator programs recently launched as part of the White House’s Startup America campaign.

“While mentoring the Deal Co-op team on their customer engagement process, I decided to create a mock company. I had been complaining about how most daily deals were for women so for fun I created a deal site exclusively for men–no spa treatments, manicures or bikini waxing allowed,” said Bob Crimmins. “Feedback on the concept was strong and so Dealometry was born. And when I learned about ManPacks during a Startup Weekend event, I knew they were the right partner for our national launch deal.”

“We can never predict exactly what will come out of relationships between TechStars teams and their mentors but we see over and over again that mentors provide much more than business advise and industry introductions,” said Andy Sack, Executive Director of Seattle TechStars and a prolific technology investor. “Dealometry is a great example of the synergies that we love to see happen.”

Dealometry’s national launch deal, $12 gets you $24 at ManPacks, is made possible by Deal Co-op’s recent expansion of their platform to support national deals.

“We joined TechStars and moved our company from Birmingham, Alabama to Seattle primarily for the mentoring. The connections and insight we gained in three short months exceeded all of our expectations,” said Deal Co-op CEO Nate Schmidt. “To be able to team up with one of our TechStars mentors on Dealometry is especially sweet. Bob knows us, he helped shape our platform, and we’re going to have a lot of fun kicking Dealometry off with a great deal from ManPacks.”
